Scar Massage Therapy

As your body heals after an injury, scar tissue forms. Scar tissue is fibrotic and less mobile than pre-injury. Adhesions may form, sticking together layers under the skin. The RESTORE Scar Therapy Method is a non-invasive physical therapy, developed to treat scar tissue, fibrosis and adhesions. Using specialist scar massage and fascial release, therapy tools and self-care advice to promote healthy recovery. It was developed by the UK’s leading scar therapy teacher and Harley Street scar specialist Emma Holly and is used within the NHS and leading private healthcare providers.

Scar tissue therapy can help:

  • Stimulate changes to scar tissue on the skin surface, and to adhesions or fibrosis in the underlying tissue.

  • Reduce common symptoms, such as pain, sensitivity or numbness.

  • Reduce tightness and improve range of movement.

  • Promote functional and cosmetic improvements.

The first 6-12 months after surgery or an injury is an ideal time to book an appointment (even if you are not experiencing any unwanted complications).  We may also need to get in touch with your surgeon/consultant prior to scar therapy (with your agreement) to ensure that we provide the best standard of care.  If you are scheduled to have radiotherapy after surgery and have a window for scar therapy 6+ weeks post surgery but before radiotherapy this is an ideal time to book. This may not be possible, and so treatment after radiotherapy can commence as soon as your skin has recovered.

A course of treatment is usually recommended, but a single session and self-care advice for you to follow at home can be helpful. Treatment can be effective in older scars too - it is never too late to benefit from scar treatment.

Our practitioner Jenny would be more  than happy to have a zoom or telephone call free of charge prior to booking to discuss your potential treatment and answer any questions you might have.
